All 8th grade students and parents are invited to attend an informational meeting regarding the President’s Challenge Scholarship. (The informational meeting that was scheduled for April 4th has been cancelled.)

This scholarship will be awarded to five 8th grade students who meet the requirements and are selected through the completion of an application, essay, an interview and selection by the committee. Upon successful graduation from high school, the selected students will be afforded the opportunity to attend SUNY Ulster for two years, tuition free.

The purpose of the President’s Challenge Scholarship is to assist first-generation, college-bound students with overcoming financial barriers associated with attending college.

Sponsoring school guidance counseling and mentoring services will be provided by RVCSD through the completion of high school to better prepare students for a two-year college education and entrance to SUNY Ulster. Recommendations will be made by the school district who will identify students who are economically challenged based on their eligibility for free or reduced lunch or who are first generation family members earning a college degree.

Target Population: Current 8th grade students
Eligibility Requirements to Apply:
-First generation college bound students
-80% cumulative GPA in grade 8
-75% cumulative GPA in four core classes (English, Math, Science and Social Studies) through mid-April
-85% or higher attendance in school
-Minimal discipline infractions
-Preference given to students with economic need
